Day 1/2
hiking in Bryce Canyon | Riverside Walk and The Narrows | other Zion trails and onto Tropic

Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5/6

Our next hike was the short but strictly uphill walk to the Weeping Wall. I was expecting a more sheltered scene, but the sight (and feeling) of cool water dripping over the rock face was pretty refreshing.

We thought the Emerald Pools trail was a bust. The water flow was very low, the photo above is of the bottom portion of the "falls." Plus the trail was fairly crowded in the late afternoon.

Surprisingly we didn't see that much cactus during our visit. This specimen outside the museum in Zion was one of the only flowering cactus we saw.

This view of the Great Arch is from the twisty Zion-Mt Carmel Hwy on our way up to the tunnel.

Once we passed through the tunnel, the scenery changed yet again... one of the highlights was this unusual formation with criss-cross striations called the Checkerboard Mesa.

At one point in our race to get to Tropic, UT before sunset, we came over a hill and saw this view. Thankfully the host at our B&B was fine with us arriving around 9pm. We ate dinner in Springdale because research told me that restaurants were limited (at best) in Tropic.

Just before entering the north portion of Bryce Canyon, we passed through a few of these arches.

Our hostess was up waiting for us to show us to our room and let us know a hot breakfast would be waiting for us the next morning. We slept very well and awoke to a cool morning that would turn into some intense sun...
