Las Vegas to Zion | Riverside Walk and The
Narrows | other Zion trails and onto
Tropic
After a half mile or so of walking through the river, we passed Mystery Falls. I imagine the time of year greatly influences the flow of this waterfall. Even with the low levels, it's still quite stunning. |
Eric got this shot of me navigating my way across the river. The beginning was pretty easy, but as we traveled further into The Narrows, certain spots became a little trickier. I was mostly concerned about getting our snacks wet if I fell down! Fortunately, I managed to stay on my feet the entire time. |
Eric had a significantly easier time in the water than I did... perhaps because the "deep" parts only came up to his knees, and I'm almost a foot shorter! |
|
There were rocky shores throughout most of the hike, although we had to cross the river regularly to get to them. I can't even describe how much fun we had on this hike. It was unlike anything we had ever done before and the scenery was beyond beautiful. |
We even had to squueze between some tight spaces... we took the water route at this spot instead on the way back and it was the only time my shorts got wet, rats! |
This shot shows off the texture of the walls very well, they were so smooth from being worn down by the river. |
Floating Rock is where we turned around from out bottom-up day hike into The Narrows. We saw hardly anyone on our way into The Narrows but on our way out we passed quite a few people. If you want the place to yourself, I suggest starting the hike as early as possible. The entire 6+ mile trip from the Temple of Sinawava to Floating Rock and back took us about 4.5 hours. Now it was time to see what else Zion had to offer... |
