A very touristy thing to do in Copenhagen is visit the little mermaid (Den lille havfrue). The brass statue is located along the water, surrounded by throngs of tourists trying to get a shot of her and with her… both from land and on boats as they turn around for the canal tours.
The statue has been in place since 1913, so she would have just celebrated her 100th birthday last year. Although this statue has a long history of being vandalized, everything was normal during our visit in July.
Dotted among the tourists are several vendors selling ice cream, so we split a magnum classic and people watched for a little while from a shady park bench.
I think the Kastellet area is worth walking through and although cheesy, do visit this storybook character if you have a chance.
