One of our favorite things to do in Belgium is sampling the great beer, so this trip was partially dedicated to sampling some Dutch beers. We sampled a range of bruins, trippels and lagers, even an oak-aged quadruple that cost 3€ for 12cl. I tried to provide links to most of the places we visited but some of the sites are only in Dutch.
Pubs/Bars
Cafe Belgique (Gravenstraat 2, Amsterdam) – Kwak, Bruges Zot, La Trappe Dubbel.
A well hidden small pub with 6-8 beers on draught. There aren’t many places to sit inside so there’s always a small crowd in the alleyway.
Cafe Gollem (Overtoom 160-162, Amsterdam) – Blanche de Namur, Affligem Dubbel
We stopped here and people watched to get out of the rain on Saturday afternoon. Lots of beers on draft and friendly staff.
Het Elfde Gebod (Zeedijk 5, Amsterdam) – St. Bernardus Abt 12
Unbelievably, this place was mostly empty on a Saturday night around 10p… we grabbed a cozy table in the back and entertained suggestions from the bartender on what to try.
In de Wildeman (Kolksteeg 3, Amsterdam) – Texels Tripel, Brother David’s Triple
This place was packed and finding a menu was a little challenging. Lots of Dutch and Belgian beers available.
‘t Arendsnest (Herengracht 90, Amsterdam) – LaTrappe Quadruple (oak-aged), LaTrappe Dubbel, Czaar Peter
This place was recommended by another couple staying at our B&B and it was only a few blocks away. Largest selection of Dutch beers we saw anywhere! We’ll definitely return to this bar the next time we are in Amsterdam.
Cafe Brinkmann (Brinkmannpassage 41, Haarlem) – LaChouffe, Hertog Jan pils
Gave our feet a break in their large outdoor patio area in Grote Markt. A few beers on draft and tasty paninis.
Jopenkerk (Vestestraat 1, Haarlem) – Jopen Trinitas Tripel, Jopen Bokbier
This brewery is located inside a renovated church. Lots of beers available from light to dark, hoppy to stout.
In den Uiver (Riviervismarkt 13, Haarlem) – Brouwerij ‘t IJ Zatte, Jopen Fokker Spin
People watching on a lovely Sunday afternoon while listening to live jazz.
