The majority of our trip was spent exploring in New Hampshire, and as usual, waterfalls were a significant component.
We finally arrived in NH on Wednesday afternoon (Sept 28) and managed to hit Profile Falls along the way to the White Mountains. We parked in a pullout just after the stone bridge, then followed a small trail along the river for about 0.1 miles.
On our way to dinner that evening we took a detour to check out Campton Falls, which is viewable off the roadside, and accessed via a short trail down the hillside.
On Thursday we focused on several of the Franconia Notch State Park waterfall trails. We started on the southside at Basin Cascade, which was a lovely hike featuring Basin, Kinsman Falls, Rocky Glen Falls, plus multiple photogenic cascades. Altogether it was 3.5km (2+ miles) RT hike from Basin parking lot – not too far, but the ground is very uneven, with lots of roots and rocks, so the going is a little slower.

Next we stopped at the Cloudland Falls trailhead. A second 2.5 mile RT hike allowed us to see Stair Falls, Swiftwater Falls, and of course Cloudland Falls. On the return part of this hike the sky went from an occasional drizzle to actual rain, so by the time we got back to the car we decided we’d had enough hiking for the day.

On our way back to the cabin we stopped briefly at the Old Man of the Mountain Historic Site to check out the exhibit on where the famous rock used to be (it collapsed on May 3, 2003).
