On a Thursday with beautiful weather we set our emails to out-of-office and drove with my parents out to Orient, the very end of the North Fork of Long Island.
Our first stop was at Opties and Dinghies for lunch. This small restaurant had a handful of tables (outdoor only) and a menu that included Asian dumplings, sweet and savory crepes, gelatos and pastries… our biggest problem was narrowing down a reasonable amount to order! The char siu bao had a flavor we’d been missing without international travel, the crispy chicken dumplings were messy and delicious, and my moms savory crepe was also well received.
Of course we finished with gelato – salted caramel for my parents, mint chip for me (seriously minty, I loved it), and black sesame for Leandra. We’ll definitely be back on future trips.
After lunch we walked down Village Lane admiring the architecture and gardens.
Next, we drove out to the actual Orient Point (County Park), the very end of this part of Long Island.

Since my parents have a town parking sticker, our next stop was Horton Point Lighthouse. Leandra and I went down all the many steps to the very pebbly beach.

After sweating our way back up all those stairs, we stopped to catch our breath and admire our second lighthouse of the day.
