On our return to the US after two weeks in Argentina we had a day in Miami to explore some art and visit with friends. We were supposed to land at 5am(!) but our flight was delayed almost two hours, so that meant getting the car and heading to the Wynwood area at 7:45am instead of 6ish. We found street parking and spent about an hour exploring the Wynwood murals by winding our way between North Miami Ave and 6th Ave along the 20s streets.
Feeling hungry, we stopped in for breakfast sandwiches at La Sandwicherie and ate outside on their patio enjoying the sunshine. Eric had a ham and cheese baguette and I got the smoked salmon and mozzarella with cucumber and tomato. We both really liked the spicy sauce they gave us for dressing.
Then it was on to the next spot, Bayfront Park and the dogs and cats walkway sculpture area. Parking was a little difficult as the immediate area is under construction so we had to pivot and park further away. We did find a spot though! Apparently there was a lot of noise about this art installation in the news when it was first announced regarding the quality of work, but we both thought the sculptures were charming, even if the schnauzer didn’t look like a schnauzer.
Our next stop was the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens where we discovered the attached parking lot listed on Google was torn up and becoming a building. Thankfully we found a street parking spot on Meridian Ave after a few laps around the Convention Center area. The gardens were small but charming.
It was also right next to a huge and powerful Holocaust memorial, which we also explored.
To finish the grand Miami tour we drove down Beach Ave so Eric could see some of the art deco buildings.
It took a bit of searching but we did find parking close to all the things we wanted to see. Altogether we spent about $15 in total for 4 hours of parking, all through the PayByPhone app. Explored out, we left Miami and arrived at our friend’s place in Coral Springs just after 2pm!
