Weekend in Florida: overview and where we stayed

by | Feb 1, 2025 | Travel, USA Travel

For years we have been taking a trip to Florida’s Gulf Coast area in the January / February time frame to visit family, usually driving and staying for 1-2 weeks. This time we found some good flights on Southwest for the weekend after MLK, Jr weekend so we decided to head south and escape the cold for a few days.

We didn’t stay with family so we had our choice of areas to pick from, eventually landing on the small village of Gulfport. Eric found us a great deal on Booking.com for a duplex that was within walking distance of Beach Blvd (the main shopping and restaurant street) and the beach. While some businesses near the water were still closed due to hurricane damage, many places inland were open and lively.

Where we stayed

We got the code to check into our airbnb after we landed so we showed up promptly at 3pm to drop off our things and explore a bit on foot. The place was spacious and in a great location. Parking was on the street right outside the home and we never had any trouble finding a spot.

The kitchen had everything we needed and a mini dishwasher!

There were paddleball and tennis course right across the street from our place but the noise never bothered us. We even had a lovely visit from a congregation of ibises looking for grubs on our last day.
