Europe Spring 2024: Valencia gardens

Valencia has as a lot of different gardens, some simply between streets, others as large formal gardens.

Jardín del Turia
The famous former Turia riverbed is now a large, winding park for the city. It has a little of everything including flowering bridges, orange trees, parrots, football fields, bike lanes, and so much more. A great place to walk or sit and enjoy the sun.

Gran Via del Marqués del Túria and Av. del Regne
Both are long, narrow gardened zones between alternate lanes of traffic, and both feature palm trees, various flowering shrubs, and benches. Since these streets bordered Russafa we passed by and through these pedestrian corridors often.

Parc Central
This park features lots of flowers and trees, plus plenty of benches for enjoying the sun or seeking out shade. It also has several interesting water features including an small intertwining one.

Just a few blocks from our apartment we visited multiple times during our four weeks, so we saw quite a change between late March and late April, with many more plants blooming, especially the rose bushes and flowering vines.

On holidays (i.e. Monday after Easter) the park was filled with families enjoying a day off, and the early evenings were quite popular for dog walkers (so many greyhounds!).

Jardín de Las Hespérides
A citrus garden with several sculptures – a tad disappointing in terms of things to see but worth a stop if you are in the area.
