For our trip back to NC we decided to spend a night in Savannah – it would break up the trip into two easier driving days, plus we had a free night certificate at an IHG hotel that we needed to use.

On the way we stopped outside of Gainesville at Daft Cow Brewing. I had the Muddy Pig Porter (solid) and Eric had the Sour Patch Kegs Berry Burst (which he thought tasted more like a jolly rancher). We each opted for 10z pours. The logo and decor were great and the bartender was very friendly.

Upon arriving downtown, we found a spot in the Bryan Street parking garage and checked into the Holiday Inn Express. After scoping out the weather radar (no rain!), we headed out to explore. We meandered through several squares and made our way to the Forsyth Park fountain.

Feeling a bit peckish, Eric found us a place with an oyster special happy hour and we figured we could just make it. We walked into the Common Restaurant at 5:55pm and after being quickly seated at the bar I ordered 6 oysters and two Old Fashioneds just under the buzzer for the happy hour pricing.

We had such a good time chatting with the bartenders Lainy and Justin that we stuck around for a glass of wine (Chianti for me and a Vouvray for Eric).

For dinner we had 7:30p reservations at the 17Hundred90 Inn. Service was very friendly here as well and we started with cocktails while listening to the piano player. For dinner I got the ribeye steak with roasted potatoes and carrots, cooked perfectly and delicious. Eric got the Caesar salad with grilled chicken and he said it was one of the best dressings he’s had in a while.

After dinner we walked down to the river and perused some shops.

The next morning we had a quick breakfast at the hotel then walked around for 45 minutes to enjoy the sunshine before the 5+ hour drive back home.
