Italy 2023: Bologna sights

by | Jun 14, 2023 | International Travel, Travel

Monday

After checking into our apartment we walked about 15 minutes to the center, then onward to a view of the famous Bologna towers. There are a lot of power lines at the base, so it is hard to get a good photo, but it is nice to see in person.

From there we had a quick walk around the crowded market and Piazza Maggiore.

Of course, there were really nice views that we enjoyed from our 4th floor apartment.

Wednesday

With a full day of rain in the forecast we focused on covered and indoor activities. First up was shopping, where we could stay under the porticos and stay (mostly) dry. Leandra got a new shirt, and Eric found shorts at Pull and Bear. Next, we dashed across the square to the surprisingly beautiful Biblioteca Salaborsa. The glass floors under the main room hint at the 200 BC Roman ruins underneath, which you can visit for free.

After the library we tried the  Biblioteca Comunale dell’Archiginnasio, a 16th century anatomy theater and law room with old books and family crests everywhere. Quite impressive, and dry too!
