After exploring the Lewis Ginter Gardens, we needed some shade and a snack, so we stopped by Garden Grove Brewing. Eric tried their tropical Kitsu (a mead with loads of citrus) while Leandra enjoyed the Darkwood mild, and we snacked on honey roasted peanuts.
Next, we explored the vibrant Carytown street scene of buskers, independent shops, and restaurants. One place that caught my attention was For the Love of Chocolate shop, where we picked up chocolate truffles including coconut (dark and milk), mint, and raspberry – they were delicious, and only 60 cents a piece.
Along the way, we also discovered several creative street art murals on the main street and alleyways.
We capped off our day with a visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, where admission is free. The collection was impressive, featuring works from both new and established artists, as well as outdoor sculptures. The back lawn and garden was a popular spot for picnics on this warm day.
Though the art descriptions were a bit stiff, it was a great museum experience that we look forward to trying again in the future.
