Asian adventure 2011: where we stayed in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai: Le Meridian

We’ve stayed at a few Le Meridian hotels in Europe since they are part of Starwood. In our experience they are chic-looking with good locations, but their service can vary considerably. As a business-style hotel, they nickel and dime you for everything and that was definitely the case in Chiang Mai.

Though a bit bland with a lot of white, the room was generally pleasant with a good bed. The bathroom has a window to the room that can be closed via blinds above the bathtub.

Our room had a mountain view, which meant we looked west toward the walled city and the mountains. In retrospect this orientation is better than the opposite side of the hotel which had brighter morning light and a view of the sprawling newer city.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the old city, but right at the foot of the night market, so the location is certainly reasonable. We used Starwood points to pay for most of our stay at this hotel so it was a good option for us; paying the full cash price would not be a great value in our opinion.
