After my inability (or reluctance) to stay up late in Barcelona three years ago, I was determined to be a better tourist in Madrid. Which meant no dinner for me before 9:30pm. This was rendered remarkably easy due to our nightly two+ hour wander to various tapas bars. Of course there were snacks for purchase, but I was pleasantly surprised that most bars offered a complimentary small plate when we ordered wine or beer. Sometimes it was a tortilla de patatas (potato tortilla, Eric yeah!) and sometimes it was olives (Leandra yeah!). The wine pours were about half a glass, but we never paid more that 3 Euros and the whole point is that you have a drink or two or move on… so that’s what we did.
delicious potato goodness and the local beer – Estrella @ Wooster
chorizo / cheese and smoked salmon / fried banana crostinis @ Tempranillo. We paid for these :)
house-made sparkling cider (sidra) at Casa Mingo – out of the way but worth the walk
typical wine by the glass menu on a chalkboard above the bar @ Casa Lucas
Edit: I forgot to add the amazing cocktails we consumed at the charming Del Diego bar!
