exploring old town Salzburg

by | Dec 17, 2010 | Travel

After spending the morning hiking around Kapuzinerberg, we explored the rest of Salzburg with the intention of having a beer at the famous Augustinerbrau in the Mulln district.

Our first stop was Mirabell Gardens which still managed to look remarkably green even in late November. Those conical trees you see pictured are actually not trees at all but branches mushed together into a tree shape. Crazy or brilliant?

We crossed the river and climbed more stairs (legs were pretty tired by now) to the Muellner Kirche for lovely views of the north side of Salzburg and the Kapuzinerberg.

good to know that we were never that far from a mug of beer!

Near the Museum of Modern Art is where you get the classic aerial view of Salzburg

So, about that beer… turns out that the Augustinerbrau doesn’t open until 3pm and the alternative place was supposed be be open but unexpectedly closed. Determined to have that beer, we had one option left nearby, Krimpelstätter, which happened to also have some amazing apple strudel. Success!
